Running anti-clockwise for the third time in four races, extended qualifying saw an even spread of heavyweight drivers across both Group A & B. IKC debutant and professional Porsche Carrera driver Mitch Gilbert set the pace in the weight division clocking an impressive 1:03.97 to snatch 5th place overall in Group A. Incredibly Gilbert’s efforts were almost overshadowed by fellow Group A driver Nader Tunsi who threw the #36 kart around Shah Alam just three tenths slower at 1:04.24, good enough for 7th place overall.
Both qualifying sessions proved to be the tightest yet of 2016, most heavyweight drivers struggling to break into the top ten in either group. The three championship leaders all found themselves in the teens, Anderson (1:05.46, 19th), Chew (1:05.48, 14th) and Imran Bagha (1:04.84, 14th) all staring at an uphill battle to score
